Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

So here's my QSoD. This is just a random O.C (original character). He kind of has a Star Trek vibe coming off of him. Maybe he's a cross between Spock and Captain Kirk (haha). Anyways, this was just a little doodle that popped up into my mind when I accidentally made the jaw line too thin. Actually, this is one thing that I absolutely love  about art. It's not whether or not you make a mistake that makes a masterpiece or a disaster... it's how you deal with that slip of the hand that brings out the true beauty of the art piece. For instance, some times I'll be trying to draw a cat and instead it turns into hippo.... but it's a beautiful hippo. Some of my best drawings have been the work of an accident. But the thing is: if I had just scrapped them all I would have no masterpieces to show. So, that's why whenever you do something artistically (it could be drawing or writing or even music) you mustn't ever be worried about how anatomically correct it is or how accurate the colors are (though those things are important) if you're too busy being a technical artist and not a free spirited one... you'll never have anything worth while to show for it.

Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

Well this is a little bit different from the style of my usual QSoD (with the exception of Aqua Blade). I wouldn't typically call this a 'realistic' style, however, this is pretty close considering I'm a cartoonist. Even when I was little I really didn't do realistic (not necessarily because I couldn't but I really enjoyed doing cartoons). But today I was practicing muscle anatomy and I've never been able to draw muscles without shading it.
So if you couldn't already tell... this is a drawing of a boxer who just won a tournament. Not much to it as it was originally just muscle practice but it has a story nonetheless. A black eye means he put up quite a fight but willpower let him win.
I hate boxing (way too violent) but I was inspired to make him a boxer.

Quick Sketch of the day + Yesterday's QSoD Inked

Hi Guys,

So here's my QSoD. For the first time I named my QSoD because I drew it with a meaning. I call it: Defiance.
Now if you don't understand, I have something that will help. Okay, first, put yourself in her place and imagine. Imagine anybody - anybody you know, anybody you refuse to bend to - and imagine him asking you or... demanding you... to do what you cannot do. Imagine, though, what you'll lose if you don't do it: Your money, your reputation, your friends. You begin to question your choice and, little by little, you can feel him taking hold of you and bending you. But, all of the sudden you start to remember the little things that make up you.You start to imagine what it would be like to lose those things. What you would lose if you bent (even just a little): Your heart, your mind... your conscience. Slowly you start prying his hands off of you and twisting yourself back in place until it boils back down to the place you started: Put yourself in her place and think about what you'll do...  now think about why I named this picture what I named it.

And if you still don't understand at this point... you will someday.

Yesterday's QSoD Inked:

Okay, so I finished the inking of the cute sketch that I did yesterday. It certainly took me longer to do than the sketch but not quite as long as it would have a few months ago. People have been noticing lately just how quickly I draw (great reason to order a commission). That's why instead of naming it a Sketch of the Day it became a Quick Sketch of the Day because it seriously doesn't take me that long to do it. I think the logic behind it is my understanding of what I'm drawing. For instance, with hands, it can take me up to half an hour working on hands alone (since I focus on the anatomy of the hand so intensely) however with a head I go: circle, three sticks, and connect them with some squiggly lines.. BOOM I'm done.
But the reason it took me so long to do this is not because I didn't understand it, though. It's because of: 1. The size of the picture, and 2. The way I colored it in. I had to match all the right shades and colors with the outlines and the shading itself.
Also, I've only used this type of coloring one other time (Aqua Blade) so I like how it turned out.

(Happy) Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

So here's my QSoD. It's of a happy little house with a happy little tree and a happy little bush and a happy little boy and some happy little flowers and... some fences (Woah. Bob Ross flash back).
So, this drawing was partly inspired by a drawing from one of my favorite artist that I follow on Deviantart. He drew a tree (a very happy one) and it put me in a happy mood. As a result, you have this picture. I know I don't typically do inanimate objects but the idea was so clear in my head I just had to transfer it onto this canvas.
I know I didn't shade it much (reason being: my hands hurt) but I'll be doing an inking of it tomorrow which will hopefully make up for it. =)

Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

Here's my QSoD. I was feeling a little nostalgic when I drew it. It took me maybe 20 minutes all together.
The shading that I used was simple and not very detailed but it still has it's way of summing the picture up nicely.

The story behind this is of a girl sitting alone in a park then she notices a note left for her - from her love - with a flower (a memory of when they first met).
I didn't put that much of a deep story behind it but still enough to have some meaning.

Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

So here's my QSoD. I decided to do a 're-imagined' version of Shaggy. It's sloppy and the coloring job is a mess but I did it in 10 minutes so... I think it came out presentable.
For some strange reason, whenever I draw a popular character, I always feel the need to write his name out. I guess it's because a lot of the time people can't actually tell who I drew (haha). In fact, I was going to leave him just black and white but I thought of that and I colored him in really fast.
I used to draw popular characters from TV shows more when I was younger then stopped to do more original characters. For instance, I did a picture of Binky Barnes from Arthur. The popular kid's show on PBS. Or Matt from Cyberchase (also on PBS). Then a few times I would attempt to draw Spongebob but I always failed miserably (and he's such an easy character too).
Maybe someday I'll put together an entire slide show of my old drawings leading up to my current ones to see how much I've progressed. I might also do a 'Draw This Again' meme. It's where you take one of your favorite pictures (or at least one that you loved when you were younger) and re-draw it with the epic new skills you acquired over the years. I was actually working on one maybe a month before I started the blog, but, I'll do a different one anyway.

Your Suggestions:

I don't typically get comments on the blog, but, if you have any ideas feel free to leave it down in the comment section below. Perhaps you could ask me to do a speedpaint or a short little tutorial on something you would like to learn. Anything, I'm open to hearing about it. But don't forget to order a commission while you're at it! Every cent earned goes towards the charity for my aunt. And please tell everybody you know about this charity. Whether you email them a link, post it on facebook, tell your class, I really don't care. But please help spread the word around and help me help my aunt!

Quick Sketch of the Day(Inked) + Good News + Commission Suggestions

Hi Guys,

So I thought I'd mix things up a bit and ink today's quick sketch the way I inked 'Aqua Blade'. This is actually an inking of an old sketch that I did a month ago. He's an archer practicing in the water.

I didn't put as much effort into this as I normally do but... ah well, I hope you guys like it.

In Other News:

My Aunt went to the mall today. It's great that she can get out of her bed and do something fun but, still, getting into that car is still a hassle. Please help out with the charity to get her that van. You just need to request that I draw one picture for you. It could be of anything (within reason of course) and I will draw it for you. Every dollar, every penny, goes into the charity. So please tell everybody you know to help out!

Commission Suggestions:

So maybe a few of you can't think of what you want me to draw. Well, there are a lot of options.
The following are a few my family and I thought of:

  1. Cartoon interpretation of you child or grandchild (or any family member or friend
  2. A scene from a story you're writing (I recommend this)
  3. Custom Cards (Be it get well cards or business cards/personal cards)
  4. Custom poster designs
  5. An O.C (Original character (typically for stories))
  6. Fliers (for clubs/tag sales/parties, etc)
  7. 1. Logos
    2. Cartoon interpretation of the host and guests of children's parties
    3. Cartoon interpretation of yourself for your avatar (Facebook/Youtube, etc.)
These are just six options but the possibilities are endless. If you think of any more send me an email.
Any more that I think of I'll post. =)

Yesterday's Quick Sketch(Inked) + Commission Chart!

Hi Guys,

So, I probably would have had this up much earlier, however, last night while I was inking Aqua Blade my computer had a nervous break down and I lost the entire picture... But, I did re-ink it today and (in all honesty) it came out better than my original ink so, hey, things work out.
If you look closely at the picture, the insignia on his chest is half a razor and half waves. I actually had a lot of fun working on this one. The reason I presented the sketch of it then the ink was to show you guys just how drastic a change a drawing can make when you clean it up a little bit. Because it's not that the drawing became a new one, but you're now just able to see what was underneath the extra guide lines and stray markings.

Commission Chart!:

So the prices on each of the examples (Sketch/Ink/Ink and Color) are the minimum of what you can donate. Please remember this is a charity and every dollar counts to helping my aunt out.
Now, in regards to the ink and color, my signature style of coloring is with hard shading, however, not all of you will want such a cartoon-y style so the coloring and cartoon-ish-ness varies. Whatever you say, I'll do (within reason of course).

Quick Sketch of the Day + Apology for No Commission Chart

Hi Guys,

So here's my quick sketch that I did today. Please don't ask how in the world I though of the subject because I really don't know. I've done a similar one to this but he was just a random fish boy. This guy is actually a super hero named 'Aqua Blade'. Yeah... I was feeling a little.. adventurous today.
So Aqua Blade is throwing his Shark Bomb at an enemy (maybe I'll draw him tomorrow) with a giant, epic tidal wave emerging behind him. XD
An inked version will also be posted tomorrow.

No Commission Chart:

Yeah, I'm sorry guys. I forgot to do it today so I'll have to post it to tomorrow since my inking juices are all worn out (it takes some time to to draw all the examples neat and clean the way it will be done). So check back in and look out for it tomorrow.

Quick Sketch of the Day + Commission Update

Hi Guys,

So here's my new quick sketch that I drew today. This one took me a few more minutes then yesterday (since it's mostly full body) but still not too too long. Maybe around 10 -15 minutes. But then again it's hard to tell... I've been coming back to it all through out the day (being lazy with the hands). This one is in a slightly different style than yesterday's but still it has that general sense of the same style.
All in all I think (though it's a little rough around the edges) it came out decently. The only thing I'm a little critical with is the legs. I don't usually draw them crossed but for the sake of a different possition I chose to do it that way. Practice makes perfect I guess. :)

Commission Update:

Tomorrow I will post a commission chart (with or without prices.) I'll divide it into a few different categories such as sketch or ink or sketch with color or ink with color, etc.
Check it out tomorrow though and please support this charity for my Aunt.

Landscape/ Quick Sketch of the Day + Commission Info

Hi guys,

I'm kicking off the day with a quick sketch I did (I'll post one every day) and a landscape done on my tablet a few days ago.

The sketch took me about 5 minutes to do and is of nobody in particular - just practicing head positions and different versions of facial features. Plus, I've been trying to draw a little more in this style as it's typically good to use for commissions (of course I'll spiff it up a little bit, this is just a doodle with the general sense of the style).

Next is a landscape I did (digital painting). Landscapes aren't my forte however I will be practicing them a little more now should I ever get a commission with a difficult background. My inspiration to actually paint a landscape came from staying up at 12:00 am watching Bob Ross videos. I'm actually amazed it took me this long to discover him. But, now that I have... :D

Commission Info:

So I am officially taking commissions now. To send a request please send an email to:
skiddishart@gmail.com

I will respond as soon as possible. Please help support this charity, every dollar I earn will go towards my aunt's van until the goal is reached.

Art For a Cause

Hi there,

Welcome to Skiddish Art!

My name's Kassie.
I'm 12 years old and art is my passion.
Though art and I have been in an on again/ off again relationship, we've finally found common ground, and are happily bonded together.

What This Blog's About:

Well, I started this blog - yes, for my art, but also - for my aunt. Let me explain,
My Aunt - Jacqueline - for seven years now has been battling cancer located in her spine. Though she's been put through countless treatments, my Aunt Jacqueline has been paralyzed in almost every part of her body. So, you can only imagine how hard doctor's appointments are.. Right?
Well, it's bad. Even though so much damage has been done, however, there are some things that can still make it easier for her. My family and I starting with a van. A van made exclusively for people who are paralyzed just like my aunt.
So, we've finally made it to why this blog is here. To get her that van, we're going to need the sufficient funds, no doubt. What I want to do is sell my art to you guys. Unfortunately, a lot of people aren't going to want to pay money just so that they can select from a few pieces everybody has... So, that's why, I'm doing commissions. You tell me what to draw, I draw it for you, and the money I earn goes into the charity for my Aunt.

 More Ways You Can Help:

It means so much to my family and I when a person reaches out to help, but one person won't get us very far. Please, tell everybody you know about this. Tell your, parent's tell your kids, tell your schoolmates and your workmates, tell your pets if they can spare some money! Spread the word about this charity, and help me help my Aunt Jacqueline!
