Quick SKetch of the Day

Hi Guys,

So this was just a quick doodle I did at the end of the day. I was working on four different projects today so my hands hurt right now, my creative juices are all run out, and I'm ready to just sit back and read a book.
Enjoy today's QSoD. =)

My First Steampunk! =D

Hi Guys,

So for today's QSoD I drew my very first steampunk design. It's just a simple mask design but I think it's pretty good for my first try. There are a few things I'd change next time I draw steampunk. But the most prominent one is: I'd add more gears and moving parts. It seems a little.. plain. But other than that I think I made a nice combination of leather and metal. After all.. that's pretty much what steam punk is.. leather and metal.
The coloring job I did is a little sloppy (I usually make my coloring pretty clean) but I did this in half an hour total so I didn't really have all that much time to detail it. I hope you enjoy it! =)

Quick Storm of the Day

Hi Guys,

So here's my QSoD. In case you guys didn't hear... Sandy's here! Yes, Sandy, the supposed " superstorm". I doubt we'll get it as badly as poor New York or Long Island but I'm afraid we'll lose power soon so I want to show you my QSoD before that happens. It's of what Sandy's doing to NY. I hope everybody's ok down there!

By the way, this is actually my third attempt at posting it. The storm has knocked the power out 3 times so far... I'll see if my power stays up 'till tomorrow. Hopefully it does so I can post another QSoD!

Quick Sketch of the Day + Plus new Page

Hi Guys,

So today's QSoD is actually a redone version of an old sketch I posted on here. Here's the link to the first version: Click Me
And then here's today's redone version:

New Feature to My Blog:

In case you haven't noticed, I added another page to my blog called Videos. There I'll post some speed paints I recorded so make sure to check that out!

More Minecraft?!?!

Hi Guys,

I dun did it again!
That's right, I drew another Minecraft piece. My last one was a more realistic version of Steve in the mines (you can check it out here: Click Me)
However, this time it's a picture of a chibi style creeper.

I started off only doodling but then I colored him green... then it kind of escalated from there.
Poor creepers... they only want to hug usssssssss.
This took me about 45 minutes to an hour total (I know it's pretty long for something as simple as this but as I get older I'll probably get faster).

Anyways, the coloring job isn't anything special. I drew it in Autodesk Sketchbook (which I've already made clear how much I hate drawing on it). But I didn't really feel like going in to SAI for my QSoD because I have a bunch of different projects I have to do. Two are commissions and one's a project not related to Skiddish Art.

I hope you guys liked my chibi creeper! Please leave a comment (it could be critique or just something funny). I don't care what it's about. I just like to hear feedback. =)

Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

So I was working on a project today but I saw that it wasn't going to get finished in time so I started doodling something else but that turned in to a project that wasn't going to get finished in time either. So by this point I'm rushing to try to draw something but I'm not really sure what I should draw but it turns out I don't have enough time to draw anything anyway. Then I remembered that I drew something about a week ago. This was my own personal drawing that I wasn't going to share but I figured it's alright to present it.

The story behind this is: When I was little (probably about 5 or 6) I would draw these anti-smoking posters all the time. I started to feel so strongly about it that once when I was at the park I walked up to this random - creepy - guy who was smoking and told him it was bad for his lungs.... I was pretty devoted.
Now, I'm not that bold anymore. However I was feeling kinda nostalgic and thought back to when I used to do that. Naturally, this kind of just... happened.

So what the picture is about is a girl (still in school) who was only going to "try it". But she got hooked, it ruined her life, her family's distraught, et cetera, et cetera.

This will probably go on my list of things to color (which is piling up quickly) and I'll show it to you guys when it's done.
Hope you enjoyed it. =)

KORRA!!!

Hi Guys,

So yesterday I did a Minecraft fan art but I said to myself: "How could I do a fan art of my favorite game without doing a fan art of my favorite show??"
So I decided to (extremely) quickly doodle this fan art for The Legend of Korra.

I wasn't going to ink it originally so that's why it's slightly sloppy.
In addition to that this is the first time I've ever even attempted to draw her. Because of that I wasn't going to try drawing it in the original style of the show. I changed a few things so that it's more of my own rendition.
Coloring and shading came out alright but the fire isn't all that (pun totally intended) hot.
I think the next time I do her I'll probably add a lot more of my usual style and not rely so much on the character sheet I was studying. Anatomically speaking I think I would change a lot from the original style for my second fan art. Perhaps I'll do a different character... Bolin? Mako?... Tenzin?? Ideas are now swelling up in my head. :]
Anyways, I hope you liked this. But remember this is a charity for my aunt. I'm doing commissions for other people so in return they'll donate to help buy my Aunt Jacqueline the van made for the paralyzed.
Maybe I could draw a picture of you bending an element? It would be fun and you'd be helping out with a charity.
All you have to do is hop on over to the Contact Page and send me an email.

EDIT: I made a slight adjustment to her face and lighting so I re-wrote the signature for 10/25/12 instead of 10/24/12 (when this was posted).

MINECRAFT!!!

Hi Guys,

So today (erm, tonight) I finally finished with my drawing! This is the surprise I've been working on (and that I delayed a couple times). It's fan art for the game Minecraft.

So I took a realistic approach to this. In case you're not familliar to what Minecraft typically looks like, here's a picture of Steve (the character I drew):
Yes, in Minecraft, everything is square so my style is much different. However I think it's kind of neat whenever I see a Steve that's more normal so I drew it like this. The colors you see are ores. I put redstone (the red stuff), coal (the black stuff), and diamonds (the blue stuff). Then the red dots you see are spider eyes. In Minecraft they look like this:
Then lastly I have the Enderman eyes (the purple things in the background). The Enderman eyes were actually quite a challenge to do but in the end I think it came out looking like pretty close to what I imagine a more realistic Enderman would look like. here's the typical Minecraft design:

This is a pretty big picture so, in case you don't know how to do so, click on it to enlarge it. Then if you want it even bigger right-click it and click 'Open image in new tab'. I want you guys to see the full detail of the picture.

I hope all you Minecraft fans out there enjoyed this! If you want me to draw a scene from Minecraft in this (or any other) style just go to the Contact Page and send me an email. Remember I'm doing all this for my aunt. Every last penny goes towards getting her that van made for the paralyzed. So please help out.

Quick Sketch of the Day + Sorry!

Hi Guys,

Here's my QSoD. It's quick and sketchy like yesterday's since I was busy working on something else.

Nothing special. Just another one of the random characters I have floating around in my head.

Sorry!

So I know yesterday I said I would post the surprise I'd been working on today, however I must postpone it for one more day. But don't worry. It will be well worth the wait. In the meantime, why don't you hop on over to the gallery and look through some of my older drawings? That way, when I show you my new drawing, you'll see the improvement I've been making. =)

Hi Guys,

So this is today's Quick Sketch. It was done in about a half hour.
By the way, sorry I don't have the project I was working on yesterday up. I think I'll save it for Monday. But here's a hint as to what it's going to be of:

I'm pretty sure some of you recognize it. If you don't.. just wait 'till Monday. =D

Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

So this is just a doodle I did. It was fast and the shading's pretty basic. I was actually working on three different projects today so this sketch came just as my creative juices shut off for the day. The first project I was working on was a commission. The second one was just for my own pleasure of looking at it. Then the third was actually a writing piece I was working on. So now I'm just ready to chill. but here's my QSoD:

So this was kind of a drawing inspired by three things.
1: A character from a book series I'm reading.
2: Hugh Laurie
3: A picture I previously drew on my wall (which I was looking at as I drew this)
I was kind of going for a "on a deserted island starting to grow a beard" look. It was fast and sketchy so I didn't add much character to him but maybe one day I'll decide to give him more of a story and add some things to him.

Tomorrow I'll have some fan art to show you and I'm pretty sure that at least some of you will recognize it right away (if you play games). So look out for it!
And perhaps, if I decided to ink and color it, I'll show you the second project I was working on too. =)

Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

So for today I drew in another background (not much different from yesterday's but I'm still working on ideas).

So unlike yesterday's background, which had a warmer setting, today's is much colder (literally and figuratively). Yesterday I used warm colors like reds and browns and such but today I used blue. Like I was saying yesterday: The color you choose setst the feel for whatever the scene is. Now, you guys can tell what type of scene this is by looking at what he's wearing and what he's doing. He's wearing a jacket and he can see his breath, however it's much more believable because of the lighting and the tones used to shade. It "sets the feel".

Quick Sketch of the Day (Experimentation with backgrounds)

Hi guys,

So for today's QSoD I colored it and tried out something new with backgrounds. Typically for my Quick Sketches I only present the subject but I figured I should try diversifying. It's just a simple background for a head shot. For full body's I do an actual scene (which you will see demonstrated in a day or two).

I think it's good to try out more designs for head shots so I can give you guys more variety when you order one of these for the charity.
Perhaps tomorrow I'll try out a different one. So look out for it! =)

Another thing I was working on today was use of different tones for my shading. Typically I just match whatever tone I'm shading and bring it down to a darker color. That I did for the hair and the shirt however for the skin I decided to use a different color altogether. I'm actually happy with the results because I think it adds a certain feel to the picture. Of course this is only a head shot but it kind of gives you an idea to what type of scene is taking place. Perhaps he's in a room with a reddish hue...? Or maybe it's just his shirt reflecting off of him...? There are a lot of options and that's exactly what I like about it. You can use these hues to mold the feel to your liking. For instance, if I were to draw a picture of a person who's in a snowy area (or a generally cold place) I most likely would not shade or highlight with a reddish color. Instead I'd probably use a tone in the blue family. So I'll definitely be using these tones more often also.

Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

So this was a very quick doodle I decided to do. I had a bit of an artist's block today so I hadn't a clue what to draw. Then I decided to listen to a song... then I just got this idea for a kinda white-ish "in my own head" looking sketch. It's simple but cool:

Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

Today for my QSoD I decided to do something a little different. So you're not constantly looking at a head shot of some random character I gave you this. I figure you can put a little imagination into it. I know I did.

Picture a boy and his father walking in the park. The boy stops, looks up at his father and says: ______________
The father looks down at his son, at the verge of tears, and says:________________

Without saying another word they reach for each other's hand and continue on into the warmth of that day.

So you had to use your imagination, huh? That's what art does. It allows a person, not to copy but, to invent.

Enjoy! =)

Quick Sketch of the Day (colored)

Hi Guys,

So today for my QSoD I decided to name it again. It's called: The 7 Year Old 'Gangsta'. Haha, so this was a funny one I drew. The story behind it is a little kid who wants to be tough so he dresses up like this. Kind of typical for a lot of little boys but I thought it would look cute in a drawing.

Again it's only colored in and not inked but I think it's simple in a positive way. Just a sketch that's colored in.

Quick Sketch of the Day In Profile... Again

Hi Guys,

So I was working on a project today but it's not quite done and I have to get ready for something I'm doing tonight so it'll have to wait. In the mean time, I hope you enjoy this picture. This is actually a character from the book series The 39 Clues. her name is Nellie.

Originally, in the first book series, she had her hair dyed black and blonde (I'm not sure if she kept it that way for the second series). Knowing Nellie, it was most likely to symbolize her Mexican and French heritage (or at least that's how I interpret it). But anyways, all I know is that drawing it is a pain. I didn't know (correction: don't know) how to draw it so I ended up with this... layered mess.

By the way, I'm slowly but surely getting better with profiles. =)

Quick PIRATE of the Day (Inked and colored)

Shiver Me Timbers, ARRGGHH!!

Haha, so as you can see I decided to draw a chibi version of Captain Jack Sparrow. I'm also proud that I can rightfully call it a quick sketch because this only took me about an hour to do (to ink and color it). The sketch itself took about three minutes.

I also wanted to upload a few more things but my brother isn't doing too well right now (and since he's on the couch and I'm in my room I want to get back to him).
So feel free to tell me if you liked this or recommend character to draw.

But don't forget! If you want me to draw you (or a friend/family member) in this style (or any of my other styles) you know where to go. Just click on the Contact Page and you'll get all the information on where to send a pic of yourself.

Quick Sketch of the Day + Story

Hi Guys,

So here's my QSoD. I drew this in, maybe, ten minutes total. I also wrote something to go along with the picture, though:

Mary-Anne walked out of her house and stuck her hands in the pockets of her coat. It was a cold Friday morning which made Mary-Anne worry.
"Oh, child," Marry-Anne looked down at her granddaughter - Jane - walking beside her, "I don't know if this is going to work..."
"Of course it will grandma. I promise they'll come." Jane was referring to the town's people going to the park to hear her grandmother sing. For one week solid Jane had been giving out hand made fliers to the anybody who'd stop to take them.  All because she wanted everybody to hear her grandmother's beautiful voice. The reason? Well, it all started when Mary-Anne was just a little girl...

"Mamma?" A four year old Marry-Anne looked up at her mother - Beth - as she helped her bake.
"Yes, child?" Beth replied with her sweet-as-sugar smile.
"Mamma do you know what I want to be when I grow up?" Marry-Anne abandoned her place next to her mother to go stand in a position hinting to the answer. The little girl stood with her arms spread as far as they could extend outward, her head tilted up, and opened her mouth as wide as she could get it.
Beth put one hand on her hip and the other on her chin, "Hmm.." Beth began, "Let me guess... a singer?"
Mary-Anne shook her head, "No, no, no, mamma! Not just any singer... an opera singer."
Beth scooped Mary-Anne up in her arms, "An opera singer? Why would you want to be an opera singer?"
"Because mamma", Mary-Anne said, attention slowly diminishing as her mother's necklace caught her eye, "Opera is just more pretty than singing those usual, boring, old words in the same pattern."
"Well, where will you learn how to sing opera, child?" Beth set Mary-Anne down again.
"Oh, I'll learn, mamma! Even if I'm one hundred years old by the time I do, I'll learn."
"Mmhh. C'mon Mary-Anne, we still have to finish this pie before Papa comes home," Beth said and the mother and daughter continued with their baking.
Seventy years had past since then. Mary-Anne didn't learn how to sing opera but she still had twenty-six years to go.
"Come on, grandma! The park's just a block away!" Jane grabbed her grandmother's arm and pulled her along. As they approached the park, to Mary-Anne's disappointment, they saw not many people came to see the old woman sing. But, Jane was determined to have her grandmother sing.
"It doesn't matter, grandma! We can go sing to those two men siting on that bench over there!" Jane tugged on Mary-Anne's sleeve. "Excuse me, misters. Would you care to have my grandma sing for you?"
"Sing for us?" One of the men, a portly old man with a gruff British accent, questioned the seven year old girl. "Well, whatever do you mean?"
Jane looked up, "Grandma?" Mary-Anne looked at her granddaughter and nodded.
"Tell me what you think, gentleman," The woman said.
As Mary-Anne took a step back she started to close her eyes. As she closed her eyes, her mouth began to open. As her mouth began to open, music began to come out.
Mary-Anne didn't know the words very well - as they were in another language - and she had only heard the song twice, but she sang it with such beauty and elegance that none of that mattered. Some notes she went higher, and some notes she went lower, and some notes she sang as if she were talking it. But, with each note she sang, it seemed more and more people were starting to crowd around Mary-Anne. By the time Mary-Anne finished her song, there were at least one hundred people all around her, waiting for more.
"So gentleman," Mary-Anne opened her eyes again, "How did you like it?"
The first gentleman spoke, "I've been to countless operas but I've never heard any sang as beautifully as that. Well done M'aam. Well done indeed."
"See grandma? I told you they'd all like it! Right?" Jane turned to the crowd as they all cheered for Mary-Anne.
"Oh, thank you. I only wish I could have truly learned opera."
"You mean you've never been schooled on this art?" The second gentleman finally spoke.
"Never, sir." Mary-Anne replied sheepishly.
"Well, M'aam, it just so happens I own a school of fine arts. I have a few instructors who would be thrilled to coach you."
Mary-Anne grinned and thought to herself, If mamma were alive...
"Do you accept this offer?" The first gentleman spoke again.
Mary-Anne looked at Jane, then at the smiling audience, then back at the two gentlemen, "Yes, I accept your offer. Thank you."
------------------------------------------

So I hope you liked my story. I would make it longer (and I will for my own copy) but for now I decided to keep it the way it is. I thought it was a cute, little, read-to-your-kids-at-night type of book.
I just wrote it as I went a long (it's not that long of a story) so it's not my best work but I figured, for this type of drawing, I couldn't not write something to go along.

Quick Sketch of the Day + New Pages

Hi guys,

Sorry for being so lazy with the coloring/shading. I did this one in a few minutes.

So this is actually this guy was inspired by a character from the book series The 39 Clues. The character's name is Eisenhower Holt.
I always wanted to draw somebody from The 39 Clues but I never really got around to it. So here he is now.

New Pages:

So I promised I'd do something different when I hit 1k blog views. So I decided to add pages to the blog. You can go to the contact page, gallery, home, and an explanation about the charity. As time goes on I'll add more pages but for now enjoy!

Quick ANIME of the Day

Hi Guys,

So I don't draw anime... at all. But today something happened in my mind and, well, I drew this.
I decided to draw this typical steampunk-ish anime kid. I.e. big head/small neck, spiky hair, goggles, big eyes, tiny torso, etc.
Don't get used to me drawing anime though because I'm not going to be doing it often.
Tomorrow I'll be getting back into my usual style. =)

Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

So I decided to color my QSoD again (using Sketchbook). Sloppy but I did it in a few minutes so it's not that bad.
I started off with just some random lines and circles as my guidelines then, figuring winter's coming soon, I drew him the way he is now.

Look out for tomorrow's QSoD.

Quick Sketch of the Day

Hi Guys,

So today I decided to do a (kind of) sad themed QSoD. This is Jackson. He lost his arm when he got run over by a truck. He was drunk while he was crossing the street.. (don't ask why I thought of that..)

By the way, I'm up to 900 blog views. When I hit 1k I'll do something special. =)
